Can gas cause pain under left rib cage?

I've been getting this strange pain right under my left rib cage, and it feels like a pressure sometimes. My doctor did some initial checks and said it might be gas. Is it common for gas to cause pain in that specific spot?

Yes, trapped gas can easily accumulate in the splenic flexure, which is the bend in your colon right under the left rib cage. I get this sometimes, and doing some gentle walking or light stretching really helps move the trapped air and relieves the pressure.

Please be very careful. While gas is a common cause of pain under the left rib cage, this area also contains your spleen and is close to your heart. If you feel any chest pressure, breathlessness, or if the pain is severe and doesn't go away, please see a doctor immediately.

I can only speak from my own experience. I used to get a sharp stitch-like pain under my left ribs after heavy meals. My doctor told me it was just trapped gas from eating too quickly. It usually fades when I lie down on my side, but I always keep an eye on it.

Yes, trapped gas is a very common cause of pain under the left ribs. Try drinking some warm jeera water or sitting in a comfortable position to let the gas pass. However, if the pain is severe, constant, or spreads to your shoulder, please get it checked by a doctor right away.

I was actually researching this online because I had a dull ache under my left ribs yesterday. Apparently, it is called 'splenic flexure syndrome' where gas gets trapped in the colon bend right under the ribs. It's quite common but can feel surprisingly sharp!

I completely understand how scary it is when you get pain under your left rib cage, it makes you worry about all sorts of major issues. I used to panic and think the worst. Try to take some calm, deep breaths; most of the time it is just trapped gas, but your worry is totally natural.
