Can fluorescent lights cause skin cancer?

We have these very old fluorescent lights at my workplace, and we spend about 8-9 hours under them daily. Recently, I heard someone say they emit harmful rays. I was wondering if prolonged exposure to fluorescent lights can potentially cause skin cancer.

While the risk from indoor lights is generally considered extremely low compared to the sun, any unusual skin changes should never be ignored. I once ignored a changing mole on my arm for months and really regretted delaying my checkup. If you notice any weird spots or growths, please go see a dermatologist immediately.

In our days we only worried about the harsh afternoon sun, not the tube lights in the house. Generally, these indoor lights are quite safe, but keeping your skin healthy is always good. You can apply a little fresh aloe vera gel at night to soothe your skin, but for proper skin protection, wearing a mild sunscreen indoor is what doctors advise nowadays.

If tube lights caused skin cancer, we would all be in trouble considering how much time we spend under them while ordering late-night snacks! Honestly, the UV emission from them is extremely tiny, so you don't need to stress. Just enjoy your food and put on some basic sunscreen if you are sitting right under a powerful desk lamp all day.

I recently had a benign skin lesion removed and spoke at length with my dermatologist about UV sources. They assured me that standard indoor fluorescent lighting is not a significant risk factor for skin cancer; the main culprit is almost always unprotected sun exposure. Just focus on wearing sunscreen when you go outside.

Omg, I actually spent hours googling this exact thing because my office has huge fluorescent panels and I got so anxious about it! Most dermatologists say the UV exposure from them is negligible and won't cause cancer, but to calm my own anxiety, I started wearing indoor sunscreen daily. It really helps me feel safer, maybe you can try that too.
