Can flu start with vomiting?

Kal se thoda body ache ho raha tha, aur abhi subah vomiting bhi ho gayi. I always thought flu starts with cough and cold, but can it actually begin with nausea and throwing up like this? My daughter also had similar symptoms recently.

Please don't make the mistake I did by ignoring it as a simple food issue. Last year, my flu started with severe nausea and vomiting, and I delayed going to the clinic thinking it would just pass. It got much worse quickly, so please get yourself checked by a doctor right away if you can't keep fluids down.

While typical flu symptoms are respiratory, gastrointestinal issues like vomiting can sometimes happen, especially in children or with certain viral strains. However, persistent vomiting can quickly lead to dehydration. It is highly recommended to consult a doctor for a proper diagnosis rather than assuming it is just the flu.

Usually, the flu starts with a cough or cold, but stomach upset can also happen. You can sip on warm ginger water or take a little mint juice to soothe your stomach, but please don't rely only on these. If you are throwing up continuously and feel dizzy, you must go to a hospital immediately.

Oh god, vomiting is the absolute worst because it completely ruins your appetite for days. When I had a bad viral flu, it started with heavy nausea and I couldn't even think of eating my favorite butter chicken. Keep sipping on light coconut water or simple home-made dal soup, and definitely ask a doctor if it doesn't stop.

I didn't know the flu could start this way, I always thought it was only about sneezing and cough. My cousin is currently throwing up and has a mild fever, so we are a bit worried. Does anyone know if we should wait for a day or take them to the clinic immediately?

Yes, it actually can, especially if it is a stomach flu or a strong viral infection. I had this happen to me last monsoon and it was so exhausting to deal with. Just focus on staying hydrated with ORS and don't force yourself to eat heavy meals; call your family doctor if you feel too weak.

Having thyroid issues already makes my immunity quite weak, so whenever I get a stomach bug or flu symptoms like nausea, I don't take chances. It is so important to keep your body levels monitored. I would suggest booking a doctor consultation and getting basic blood tests done if this continues, just to be safe.
