Can flank pain be caused by constipation?

I've been dealing with chronic constipation lately, and coincidentally, I also have this persistent pain in my side, in the flank area. I'm wondering if there's a connection. Can constipation cause flank pain?

I am no expert, but last month I had terrible pain on my left side and back when I was severely constipated for three days. Once my stomach cleared up, the pain completely vanished. Still, if your pain is severe, it's best to check with a doctor to be sure.

Haan na, heavy constipation can definitely cause a dull pain on the sides and back because of all the gas and pressure. It is so uncomfortable! Just try drinking lots of warm water and see if it clears. But if the pain is very sharp or you have fever, please see a doctor immediately.

Don't just assume it is constipation because of what people tell you online. Flank pain can also mean kidney stones or infection, which can get serious quickly if ignored. Skip the home remedies for now and get a proper ultrasound or doctor's consult to know the real cause.

I know how terrifying it is to suddenly feel pain in your side and immediately think the worst. I used to spend hours searching symptoms and crying. Yes, gas and constipation can cause side pain, but please get a doctor to check it so you don't keep stressing yourself out.

Oh god, flank pain always makes me worry about kidney infections or something major, it is so stressful. While constipation can cause radiating pain due to build-up, please don't sit on it if the pain is severe or hurts to pee. Sending you lots of positive vibes, hope you feel better soon!

I literally just recovered from this exact issue last week. I had a sharp ache on my right flank and was convinced it was my appendix or kidney, but it turned out to be just heavy gas and constipation. A fiber-rich diet and lots of water cleared it, but definitely get a checkup if the pain doesn't go away.

My newborn woke me up five times last night, and now my brain is trying to figure out if your flank pain is just a very stubborn fart. Honestly, a blocked digestive system can cause all sorts of weird radiating pains. Try some warm water, but go to a doc if it feels like a stab.

Don't panic, but let's be careful about this. Yes, a full bowel can put pressure on nearby nerves and cause flank discomfort, but we also can't rule out urinary tract issues. Drink plenty of fluids today and monitor it; if it doesn't ease up by tomorrow, promise me you'll visit a clinic.

Lack of water and fiber is usually the main culprit behind this kind of gut backup and side ache. Try tracking your daily water intake to ensure you're getting at least 3 liters, and add some light walking to stimulate bowel movement. If it persists, definitely get it checked by a doctor.

Strictly speaking, constipation can cause abdominal distension that radiates to the lower back and flank area. However, true flank pain is more classically related to the kidneys. If you are also having burning urination or fever, skip the laxatives and see a doctor for a quick urine test.
