Can fiber cause stomach pain?

I recently started adding more fiber-rich foods like oats and lentils to my daily diet, but sometimes I get stomach cramps and feel bloated. Is it possible for fiber to cause stomach pain?

Haan bilkul ho sakta hai na, agar tum ekdum se bohot saara fiber khane lagoge. My sister started eating oats and high-fiber salads suddenly and her stomach started bloating and hurting badly. Slow-slow start karna chahiye, body ko adjust hone ka time do.

I totally panicked last year when I switched to whole grains and got sharp stomach cramps. I thought something was seriously wrong with my digestion! Turns out, it is completely normal if you don't drink enough water with your high-fiber diet. Just increase your water intake and you will be fine.

I kept ignoring mild stomach pain thinking it was just extra fiber from my new diet, but it turned out to be an ulcer issue that got worse. If the pain is sharp or doesn't go away in a few days, please get it checked by a doctor. Don't just blame the fiber.

Yes, introducing too much dietary fiber too quickly can overload your gut, leading to cramps and gas. I always suggest adding fiber-rich vegetarian foods like oats or flaxseeds gradually over a few weeks. Also, ensure you are drinking at least 3 liters of water daily.

Ho na, excess fiber can cause heavy gas and stomach pain if you are not used to it. Actually, even I faced this when I started eating raw sprouts every morning. Try steaming them slightly first, it is much easier on the stomach.

If you are getting stomach pain from high-fiber food, try having a glass of warm water with a pinch of hing (asafoetida) or some ajwain. It works wonders for gas pain. Also, cut down the fiber amount for a few days and then increase it slowly.

While a sudden increase in dietary fiber commonly causes bloating and mild cramps, persistent abdominal pain shouldn't be ignored. It could be due to food intolerance or IBS. If the discomfort continues, it is best to consult a gastroenterologist for an accurate diagnosis.

I can only tell you what happened with me. Whenever I eat too many raw vegetables or high-fiber bran rotis, my stomach feels bloated and achy. I started cooking my vegetables well and that helped reduce my discomfort significantly.
