Can excess mucus cause vomiting?

I've had a really bad cold for the past few days, and with it, a lot of thick mucus. Today, I actually vomited after a coughing fit. Can excess mucus really cause vomiting like this, or should I be worried about something else?

Oh, absolutely. During monsoon or winter, if I get a bad cold, all that post-nasal drip goes straight to the stomach and triggers my gag reflex. It is highly annoying, but a warm salt-water gargle helps clear the throat so I don't feel like throwing up my breakfast.

Yes, especially in kids and even adults, swallowed mucus can irritate the stomach lining and cause vomiting. Try taking steam twice a day and drinking warm water to thin the mucus. If the vomiting is severe or doesn't stop, please see a doctor immediately.

Don't worry, it's actually quite common. When you have too much congestion, the mucus drips down the back of your throat and can easily trigger vomiting, especially in the morning. Sip some warm ginger-honey water and rest, but do see a doc if you feel dehydrated.

Haan na, this happens to me every time I get a heavy cold. The mucus continuously dripping down the throat makes me feel so nauseous, and sometimes vomiting happens. Taking hot steam with a bit of mint really helps to clear it out, but do ask a doc if it gets worse.

Yes, excess mucus definitely triggers vomiting by irritating your stomach and throat. Using a saline nasal spray or taking steam before sleeping can help reduce the drip.

Haan, bilkul ho sakta hai! Actually, stomach digest nahi kar pata heavy mucus ko, toh nausea feel hota hai and vomiting ho jati hai na. Drink warm water throughout the day to keep it loose, and consult a doctor if the cough is very heavy.

Trust me, there is nothing worse than having your favorite butter chicken meal ruined because a chest cold made you throw up! Swallowing all that thick mucus really upsets the stomach. Keep your food light and simple, and maybe get a doctor to check your throat.
