Can elbow pain cause shoulder pain?

I've had this persistent pain in my elbow for some time now, and lately I'm also feeling a new ache in my shoulder on the same side. I'm not sure if they are related. Is it possible for pain originating in the elbow to actually cause pain in the shoulder as well?

My grandmother used to say that when one joint is weak, we unconsciously put pressure on the next one and make it hurt too. But it is always best to trust a proper doctor. I had a similar issue and the orthopaedic doctor explained how the nerves and muscles are connected from neck to hand.

It is honestly so frustrating when pain starts traveling like this, it makes you feel like your whole body is breaking down. I went through a phase where my elbow pain turned into a dull shoulder ache, and it really drained me mentally. Please be gentle with yourself, it is a very common connection.

Yes, joint and muscle pain can travel up the arm. Since I have thyroid issues, I often get random joint aches and have to get regular blood tests done to make sure my levels are fine. I highly recommend visiting your doctor to find the root cause instead of guessing.

Often, when our elbow hurts, we change the way we lift things, which puts extra strain on our shoulder. This compensation is usually the main culprit behind the double pain. Try applying some warm compress and avoid heavy lifting for a few days.

I was actually just reading up on this because my arm has been hurting lately too. It seems the ulnar nerve runs all the way up, so a problem at the elbow can definitely make your shoulder feel sore. Quite fascinating how our body is wired, but definitely annoying when it hurts!

Don't start trying random stretching videos from YouTube or applying different balms. Pain traveling from elbow to shoulder can sometimes be due to a pinched nerve in the neck. Go get it checked by a physiotherapist or doctor to know what is actually happening.
