Can ekg determine heart attack?

I keep hearing about EKGs being done when someone suspects a heart issue. How reliable is it, actually? Can an EKG actually determine with certainty if someone is having or has had a heart attack?

Yes, an EKG is the primary diagnostic tool used to determine if a heart attack is occurring. However, sometimes certain types of heart attacks don't show up on a standard EKG, so doctors also rely on blood tests like Troponin for confirmation.

It is so terrifying when you are sitting in the hospital waiting for EKG results. Yes, it can determine a heart attack, and knowing this quickly is what saves lives. My thoughts are with you if you're dealing with this right now.

Yes, it absolutely can. It is the first thing they plug you into at the emergency room! Don't sit around trying to read the squiggly lines yourself though, let the doctors handle that.

Yes, it is the standard medical test to confirm a heart attack. While healthy eating and herbs can help strengthen the heart over time, any sudden chest pain requires immediate emergency medical attention, not home remedies.

I used to panic thinking an EKG wasn't enough to catch a heart attack when my father had chest tightness. But the doctors reassured me that it is extremely reliable and the quickest way to find out what's wrong.

Yes, it can. If someone is having severe chest pain, breathing issues, or dizziness, don't wait to ask questions here. Get them to a hospital immediately for an EKG.
