Can ekg detect past heart attack?

My father had a heart attack a few years back, and I'm a bit concerned about my own heart health. If someone has had a heart attack in the past, can an EKG test reveal that history or any damage from it?

Yes, an EKG can often detect signs of a past heart attack by showing permanent changes in the heart's electrical patterns, like abnormal Q waves. However, a cardiologist's assessment is necessary as further imaging like an Echo might be needed for confirmation.

Yes, it can leave a permanent signature on your EKG, much like my grey hair showing my age! If you suspect you had one, don't guess, just let the doctor read the report.

Yes, it shows up as old damage on the report. If you are worried, the most practical solution is to book a routine health package that includes an ECG and take it to a physician.

Indeed! Your heart remembers its past struggles and leaves a little 'signature' on the EKG paper. So yes, it can detect an old one, but don't stress, just let the doc analyze it.
