Can eczema not be visible?

Sometimes I get these patches on my skin that feel rough and itchy, but they are not red or raised like what I usually see in pictures of eczema. My friend has visible eczema, so I am wondering if it can also be present without showing much on the outside, you know?

I totally get it, sometimes you feel the deep itch and irritation but there is absolutely nothing to see on the skin yet. It can be so frustrating when others can't see what you are suffering from. Please take care and moisturize well.

I have this intense burning and itching sensation on my arms but my skin looks normal. Is it possible to have eczema without any visible rash or redness? Should I wait for a rash to appear before visiting a doctor?

Ah, the invisible phantom itch! It is like your skin is screaming but looks perfectly fine to the world. It usually means a flare-up is just starting underneath, so don't scratch it or you will definitely make it visible and angry tomorrow.

It can start as a deep, invisible itch before the rash actually shows up on the surface. I ignored that initial stage once and it turned into a very painful, cracked skin issue later. Please visit a dermatologist early to prevent it from getting worse.

Don't worry, it is quite common to feel the skin irritation or dry sensitivity before any actual redness is visible. Just treat your skin gently right now, avoid harsh soaps, and let a doctor examine it if the discomfort continues.
