Can eating lots of sweets cause diabetes?

I have a big sweet tooth, and especially during festivals, I can eat a lot of mithai. My uncle recently got diagnosed with diabetes, and now I'm worried. Can regularly eating lots of sweets directly lead to getting diabetes?

While eating sweets doesn't directly cause diabetes on its own, it can cause major insulin spikes and lead to weight gain, which increases the risk. Dealing with PCOS has taught me to be very careful with sugar. It is always best to keep your sugar intake minimal and get regular checkups.

I can only share what happened in my family—my uncle had a massive sweet tooth and eventually developed Type 2 diabetes. However, his doctor said it was a combination of his sedentary lifestyle, weight, and genetics, not just the sweets. I personally cut down on sugar just to be safe.

Man, if eating sweets directly caused diabetes, I would have had it ten times by now with all the late-night ice cream I eat to stay awake! It definitely increases your risk by making you gain weight, so we should probably control our cravings. But yeah, genetics play a big role too.

Directly eating sugar doesn't cause diabetes, but it leads to obesity and insulin resistance, which are the main culprits. If you have a family history of diabetes, you should definitely limit your sweet intake. Get your fasting sugar and HbA1c checked annually to stay safe.

Eating in moderation is the key to maintaining a healthy temple for your soul. High consumption of sweets can disrupt your body's natural balance and lead to health issues like diabetes. Take care of your body with mindful eating and stay positive.

Consuming too many sweets creates an imbalance in the body's energy and organs. I have found that practicing regular pranayama and yoga helps control sugar cravings naturally. Try to replace processed sweets with small amounts of natural jaggery or fruits.
