Can earache cause head pain?

A persistent earache for the past day has now led to a throbbing headache, mostly on the same side. My grandmother said it's common. Can an earache also cause head pain?

Yes, actually! When I had a severe ear infection last year, the headache was so bad I couldn't even look at my phone screen, yaar. The nerves are completely connected up there, so definitely don't ignore it and get some ear drops prescribed.

My grandmother always tells us to apply warm sesame oil around the ears for relief, but when the pain spreads to the head, it is best to visit a doctor. The pressure from a middle ear infection can easily cause a throbbing headache, so getting a proper diagnosis is key.

I manage thyroid issues and know how one small infection can trigger systemic inflammation and headaches. If you have an earache accompanied by a persistent head pain, please schedule an appointment with an ENT specialist rather than self-treating.

While staying hydrated with warm herbal teas can soothe your body, it won't cure a deep ear infection causing headaches. Please don't rely only on diet modifications for this; a proper medical examination of the ear is highly recommended.

Definitely. Ear barotrauma or simple fluid buildup behind the eardrum creates intense pressure that radiates to the side of your head. My tip is to avoid lying flat—use a couple of pillows to prop yourself up, and see a doctor for decongestants.
