Can dry mouth cause throat pain?

Every morning for the past few days, I wake up with a very dry mouth. Now my throat also feels scratchy and painful. Is it possible that this constant dry mouth is causing my throat to hurt?

Yes, it definitely can. When you sleep with your mouth open or drink less water during long meetings, the throat lining dries up and gets irritated. Keep a water bottle at your desk and take small sips throughout the day.

My grandmother always suggests drinking warm water with a bit of honey for this. It really helps soothe the dry tissue. However, if the dry mouth and throat pain persist for more than a few days, please consult a doctor to rule out any infection.

Haan, bilkul ho sakta hai na! When your mouth is dry, saliva kam hota hai toh throat me khich-khich aur dard hone lagta hai. Thoda gunguna paani piyo aur raat ko sone se pehle room me humidifier chala lo agar AC use karte ho toh.

I used to wake up with terrible throat pain due to mouth breathing at night. Try doing warm saline gargles twice a day, it acts as a natural lubricant and relieves the rawness. Also, check if you have a nasal blockage causing you to breathe through your mouth.

I get this every single winter! The lack of moisture makes my throat feel so raw and scratchy when I wake up. I started keeping a flask of warm water next to my bed and it has made a huge difference.
