Can drinking too much coffee cause kidney stones?

I'm a heavy coffee drinker, easily consuming 4-5 cups a day to stay alert. My cousin recently got kidney stones, and someone told him it might be due to excessive coffee intake. Should I be concerned about my own consumption levels?

Please don't ignore any minor back or side aches if you are a heavy coffee drinker. I used to drink 5 cups of black coffee a day, ignored the mild cramps, and ended up in the emergency room with an agonizing kidney stone. Go get a quick ultrasound or checkup if you feel even a bit of pain.

My grandmother always said that too much coffee heats up the body and causes burning in urination, but my doctor explained it more scientifically. He said coffee is high in oxalates and acts as a diuretic, which can dehydrate you and form stones. Now I limit myself to just one cup in the morning and drink plenty of water.

My college-going daughter used to drink multiple cups of strong coffee during her late-night exams and suffered from kidney stones last semester. The doctor told us that coffee is a diuretic, which makes you lose water fast, leading to stone formation. I now make sure she keeps a water bottle handy and limits her caffeine intake.

With long working hours, it's hard to survive without coffee, but excessive coffee can definitely dehydrate you and increase stone risk. A simple rule that works for me is to drink one full glass of water right after every cup of coffee. This keeps you hydrated and fits easily into a busy schedule.

I am no medical expert, but I can share what happened to me. I used to have 4-5 cups of coffee daily and ended up with mild kidney stones a couple of years ago. Once I cut down to just one cup and increased my daily water intake, I haven't faced the issue again.

Drinking too much coffee can definitely increase oxalates in the body, which might form stones. For a natural remedy, you can try drinking barley water (jau ka pani) or coconut water daily to flush things out. But if you have sharp pain or trouble urinating, please see a doctor immediately.

I completely understand how worrying this can be, especially when you love your daily coffee and start reading scary things online. It is true that coffee has oxalates which can play a role in stones, but you don't have to panic. Just try to balance your coffee intake with lots of water to stay safe.

Since I already have high blood pressure, my doctor told me to be very careful with both coffee and lifestyle habits. Excess coffee can elevate BP and also stress the kidneys, potentially contributing to stones if you don't drink enough water. Regular checkups and keeping an eye on your daily routine is very important.
