Can drinking green tea cause kidney stones?

I've been trying to improve my health and switched from regular chai to green tea. My brother, who had kidney stones some years ago, told me to be careful, as green tea might contribute to them. Is this true, especially if I drink it daily?

My father had a kidney stone last year, and the urologist at Aster Medcity specifically told us to limit his green tea intake. Green tea does contain soluble oxalates which can bind with calcium to form stones. It is always best to consult a specialist to understand your personal risk before starting any daily health trend.

Honestly, my hostel mate started chugging green tea like water to lose weight, and he ended up with severe stomach pain. The doctor told him green tea has oxalates which can cause kidney stones if you drink too much. Just keep it to 1-2 cups a day and u will be fine.

There is no need to panic and quit green tea altogether. If you are worried about kidney stones, a very simple solution is to squeeze a fresh lemon into your green tea. Citric acid from the lemon naturally helps break down calcium oxalate crystals before they can form stones.

Hey, don't stress too much about this! Drinking a cup of green tea in the morning is totally fine and actually great for metabolism. Just don't replace your regular water with it, and make sure you drink plenty of plain water throughout the day to keep everything flushed out.

I recently recovered from a 6mm kidney stone and the pain was absolutely unbearable. I used to drink 4-5 cups of green tea daily thinking it was a healthy habit, but my doctor made me stop because of the oxalate content. If you have a tendency for stones, please stick to normal warm water.

I track all my macro and micronutrient intake on my fitness app, and it shows that green tea does contribute to daily oxalate levels. Moderation is the key here. If you drink 1 or 2 cups and track your daily water intake to stay hydrated, you shouldn't have any issues with kidney stones.
