Can drinking cold water cause heart attack?

My mother-in-law always warns us not to drink very cold water, especially after coming inside from the heat. She says it can give you a heart attack. Is there any medical basis for this, or is it just something elders say?

No, drinking cold water does not cause a heart attack in normal, healthy people. It's just an old myth, but you should consult a doctor if you ever feel chest discomfort.

This is a very common WhatsApp rumor. I asked a senior cardiologist at a reputed hospital about this, and he clearly said that drinking cold water doesn't cause heart attacks, though extremely cold water can occasionally trigger a nerve reflex that temporarily slows heart rate. Always ask a doctor for verified facts.

Actually yaar, there is no scientific link between drinking cold water and getting a heart attack. It's mostly a myth. But if you already have some heart condition, very cold water might shock your vagus nerve. If you are worried, it's best to talk to a doctor.

Do not let these scary thoughts disturb your peace of mind, my friend. Drinking cold water is perfectly safe and cannot cause a heart attack. Keep your mind positive, stay hydrated with normal or clay-pot water if you prefer, and trust your body. Take care.

No, drinking cold water won't give you a heart attack. It's a completely fake forward. Just focus on managing real risk factors like stress, high blood pressure, and lack of sleep. If you ever feel genuine chest pain or shortness of breath, go straight to a hospital.

I also read this online and got so worried that I stopped drinking cold water from the fridge entirely! Did anyone else feel a sudden brain freeze or chest tightness after drinking cold water and panic? I really hope it is just a myth, but maybe a doctor can confirm.

I track my vitals daily and have drank ice-cold water right after intense workouts with zero issues. Drinking cold water doesn't cause heart attacks. If you are worried about heart health, monitor your resting heart rate and blood pressure, and consult a doctor for a proper cardiac checkup.
