Can drinking cause fever?

After a heavy night of drinking with friends, sometimes the next day I feel really unwell, almost like I have a fever, with body aches and chills. I always assumed it was just a bad hangover. Can drinking alcohol actually cause a fever?

Drinking alcohol can weaken your immune system, making you catch infections easily, which might cause a fever. Being diabetic, I am very careful about alcohol since it messes with blood sugar and immunity. If you have a fever, check your temperature and consult a doctor instead of self-treating.

Yes, drinking can sometimes cause a feverish feeling due to dehydration or if your body is fighting an infection. Please consult a doctor.

While alcohol itself doesn't directly cause a typical infection-based fever, it can trigger inflammation, severe dehydration, or indicate liver strain. It also lowers your body's defenses. It's always best to get a professional medical opinion to find out the exact cause of your fever.

A fever is your body's way of saying something is wrong, and drinking might have triggered inflammation or an allergic reaction. Please do not ignore it or wait for it to go away on its own. It is always safest to visit a doctor and get properly checked.

I was actually reading about this yesterday because my friend got a mild fever after a night out. Apparently, alcohol can dehydrate you so badly that it throws off your body temperature regulation, or it might be a reaction. Let us know if you find out what the doctor says!

My fitness band always shows a massive spike in my skin temperature and heart rate after I drink alcohol. It can make you feel very hot or feverish because of vasodilation. If you actually have a proper high fever on a thermometer, though, it's likely an infection, so please consult a physician.
