Can doxycycline cause vomiting?

My doctor gave me doxycycline for acne, and since I started it, I feel nauseous sometimes and have vomited once or twice. I'm not sure if it's the medicine or something else. Can doxycycline make you vomit?

Yes, doxycycline is well known for causing nausea and vomiting. Always take it with food and never on an empty stomach to prevent this.

I had terrible nausea and threw up once when I took doxycycline on an empty stomach. After that, I started having it right after dinner with a lot of water and remained sitting up for an hour, which solved the issue completely for me.

Oh God, yes! I was so scared when I threw up after my first dose. I thought I was having a severe allergic reaction, but my doctor told me it's just gastric irritation. Please don't worry, but do ask your doctor for an anti-vomiting medicine if it keeps happening.

It definitely can cause vomiting because it's quite heavy on the gut. I usually focus on keeping my diet very bland and drinking enough water throughout the day. Getting some fresh air and avoiding heavy workouts right after taking the pill also helps.

Yes, it actually happened to me too when I was taking it for a skin infection. My doctor told me never to lie down immediately after taking the pill. Lying down makes the medicine irritate your food pipe, which triggers that intense vomiting feeling.

Yes, it can make you feel super nauseous! Try taking it with a nice light meal and don't lie down for at least 30 minutes. Hope you feel better soon! 😊
