Can doxycycline cause stomach pain?

I just started taking doxycycline for an infection, and I've been having quite a bit of stomach pain and discomfort. I'm wondering if this medicine is causing it. Is stomach pain a common side effect of doxycycline?

Yes, doxycycline is quite famous for causing stomach irritation and acidity. Since I have to be very careful with my meals due to diabetes, I always make sure to take this tablet with a full meal and plenty of water, never on an empty stomach.

It definitely can! Doxycycline is very harsh on a sensitive stomach. I suggest having a light, non-spicy meal like khichdi before taking the pill, and make sure you do not lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking it to avoid severe reflux.

Yes, it is a very common side effect. You can log your symptoms and pain levels on a health tracker app. If the pain gets really sharp or you see dark stools, definitely report it to your doctor right away instead of ignoring it.

I had terrible stomach pain when I first started doxy. The trick is to drink a huge glass of water with the pill and ask your doctor if you can take a probiotic or a simple antacid like Pantocid in the morning to protect your gut lining.

Yes, stomach cramps are common with it. I found that staying upright and going for a very gentle, slow walk after meals helped ease that heavy, bloated feeling. Just avoid doing any heavy workouts if your stomach is feeling upset.
