Can diverticulitis cause lower back pain?

I have diverticulitis, and sometimes I get sharp pains in my lower abdomen. Recently, I've also started feeling a constant ache in my lower back area. Is it possible that my diverticulitis is causing this lower back pain?

When the lower intestines are inflamed, the pressure can easily radiate to your lower back. Practicing very gentle breathing exercises and keeping the body calm helps ease the tension. Please avoid any intense yoga stretches during an active flare.

Yes, it definitely can! The nerves in our stomach and back are so closely connected that colon inflammation often feels like a bad backache. Drinking lots of warm fluids and resting up works wonders! 🌸

I went to a specialist hospital for my digestive issues last year. The doctor explained that referred back pain is common with diverticulitis, but you must ask your doctor clearly to rule out any kidney or spine issues to be absolutely safe.

Taking warm water with cumin (jeera) can help soothe a mild stomach ache. However, if your lower back pain is accompanied by a high fever, severe shivering, or blood in your stool, please do not wait and see a doctor immediately.

I can only share what happened to me, but during my last flare-up, my lower back was aching so much I could barely stand. Once my doctor put me on a liquid diet for a few days, both the stomach inflammation and back pain went away.

Hey buddy, don't stress too much about it. It is very common for colon pain to travel to your lower back. Just stick to the light food your doctor suggested, take your meds, and give it a couple of days to settle down.

I totally get it, dealing with both stomach pain and back pain at the same time is incredibly draining. It makes even sitting or lying down so uncomfortable. Try using a warm heating pad on your back to get some temporary relief while your medicine works.
