Can diverticulitis cause back pain?

I have been diagnosed with diverticulitis a few years ago, and I generally manage it with diet. Lately, I've also been getting persistent lower back pain. Can diverticulitis cause back pain, or is this likely something separate?

I panicked so badly last year when my lower back started aching along with my stomach issues, thinking it was something life-threatening. My doctor reassured me that the inflammation in the colon can actually radiate to your lower back. Once the gut inflammation settled, the back pain went away completely!

Haan na, stomach issues can be so irritating, ho na. When the colon is swollen, that pressure can definitely feel like a dull ache in the lower back also. Just try to eat very light, simple foods and give your body some rest.

Yes, it is quite common for the inflammation in your abdomen to feel like it is pulling on your lower back. I hope you get some relief soon. Please rest well and keep yourself hydrated.

From what I've seen, referred back pain can happen when the lower left part of your colon is highly inflamed. Make sure you are taking your prescribed medications. But please note, if you develop a high fever, severe nausea, or sudden, sharp unbearable pain, you need to go to the hospital immediately.

If you are planning to get an ultrasound or a scan to check the severity, compare prices online first as some labs charge way too much. Getting a proper diagnosis early will save you a lot of medical expenses and worry in the long run.

I understand how painful this can be. During flares, I found that taking simple, clear vegetable broths and warm water really helped soothe my digestive system, which in turn reduced my back discomfort. Avoid any heavy or fiber-rich foods until the pain settles.
