Can digestive issues cause back pain?

I often have problems with my digestion, like bloating and gas, and lately, I've also been experiencing persistent lower back pain. I'm wondering if my digestive troubles could somehow be causing this back discomfort. Could they be related?

Yes, gas or severe constipation can sometimes cause referred pain in your back. But please remember, persistent back pain can also be due to other medical issues, so if it doesn't get better with basic lifestyle changes, you should consult a doctor.

Actually, I went through this exact same thing last month. I had terrible lower back stiffness and realized it was due to chronic bloating and acidity. Once I started eating lighter meals and walking after dinner, my back pain completely disappeared.

Haha, yes! Every time I overeat spicy street food or heavy biryani, my stomach bloats up like a balloon and my lower back starts aching. It is a sign from my body to stop pigging out and eat some simple curd rice for a day.

It is so uncomfortable when gas builds up and radiates to your back. Try drinking warm water with ajwain (carom seeds) and black salt, or chewing a little fennel after meals. It really helps release the trapped gas and relieves that tight back feeling.

I can only speak from my own experience, but whenever I am heavily bloated, my back muscles get really tense. I usually feel better after drinking warm water and lying down on my left side for a bit, but everyone is different.

Please don't just assume it's simple gas and ignore it. I kept ignoring my back and stomach ache thinking it was acidity, but it turned out to be a severe gallbladder issue that required surgery. If the pain is sharp or continuous, go see a doctor immediately.

Beta, in our days we always said stomach is the root of all body pains. If your digestion is poor, the vata (gas) in the body increases and causes joint and back ache. Try drinking warm ginger water in the morning and avoid heavy, fried foods at night.
