Can diaper rash cream help eczema?

My daughter has some eczema patches, and we also have diaper rash cream at home. I was wondering if I could use the diaper rash cream on her eczema to soothe it. Is that safe or effective?

Honestly, I don't know the medical science behind it but diaper cream with zinc oxide worked wonders for my dry patches last winter. I just applied a tiny bit at night on my hands. It calmed the redness down but do see if your skin reacts differently before putting it all over.

I am also thinking of trying this because my eczema itch is driving me crazy lately. But did anyone else feel scared that it might clog the pores and make things worse? I read online that zinc is good but the thick wax in those creams makes me a bit nervous to be honest.

At this age, my skin has its own mind anyway, but yes, diaper rash cream actually saved my life during a bad eczema flare-up. If it is safe for a baby's soft bum, I figured it won't kill my tough old skin! Just be ready to look like a white ghost because that thick paste does not wash off easily.

I completely understand how frustrating and painful eczema can get, especially when you are desperate for any relief. When my skin was at its worst and I couldn't stop crying from the itch, a basic zinc diaper cream really helped soothe the burning. Please be gentle with yourself, this struggle is so hard but you will find what works.

Yes, many people find diaper rash creams very soothing for eczema dry patches because they contain zinc. Just try a tiny patch test first to make sure it suits you. Hope your skin feels better very soon.

It might give temporary relief, but please get a proper diagnosis instead of self-treating. I had terrible dry skin and eczema-like patches for months and kept trying home remedies, only to find out later during a routine blood test that my thyroid levels were completely off. Once my doc started the proper thyroid medication, the skin cleared up on its own.

Haha yes, absolutely! Buying baby diaper cream at 30 for my own face was slightly embarrassing at the pharmacy, but it actually works. Just think of it as a very cheap spa treatment that makes you look like a mime for an hour.

I have dealt with eczema for ten years now and yes, diaper creams with high zinc oxide are great for barrier repair. The trick is to apply your regular moisturizer first on damp skin, let it absorb, and then put a thin layer of the diaper cream only on the worst patches to lock it in. Don't use it on open, bleeding cracks though; for that, you need a doctor's prescription.
