Can diabetics take dayquil?

I've caught a bad cold and feeling quite congested, especially during the day. My neighbour recommended DayQuil, but since I have diabetes, I'm a bit worried about its sugar content or other ingredients. Can diabetics take this medicine safely?

Haan, but normal liquid DayQuil has a lot of sugar in it, na. If you have diabetes, it can spike your levels quickly. Look for the sugar-free version or just take the gelcaps instead of the syrup.

You need to be careful because the liquid version is basically sugar syrup. Buy the DayQuil liquicaps instead since they don't have active sugars. Also, check with your pharmacist to make sure it doesn't clash with your regular diabetes meds.

When I had a bad cold last year, my doctor told me to avoid regular cold syrups because of my high sugar levels. He prescribed a specific tablet instead. I would suggest asking your doctor before taking any OTC cold medicine.

My teenager is diabetic and when he got a severe cold, we realized regular DayQuil was causing his blood sugar to rise. We immediately switched to the capsule form which has no sugar. Just keep an eye on their levels every few hours.

DayQuil syrup tastes sweet for a reason—it's loaded with sugar! If you take it, your glucose monitor might think you had a slice of gulab jamun. Better stick to the sugar-free pills if you want to avoid a surprise sugar spike.
