Can diabetics take dayquil cold and flu?

This season, I seem to catch a cold and flu every other month. I usually reach for something like DayQuil Cold and Flu, but now with my diabetes diagnosis, I'm unsure. Does it contain anything that could be bad for my blood sugar?

Honestly, dealing with this cold and my sugar levels is keeping me up all night. Just a heads up, the liquid DayQuil is packed with sugar. If you don't want your blood sugar levels to match your high body temperature, go for the capsule version instead.

Whenever I get a cold, I just avoid these heavy syrups entirely because they always mess with my fasting glucose readings the next morning. I usually stick to warm water gargles and consult my doc if it gets worse.

Please be very careful with cold medicines. Once I took a random syrup without asking my doctor, and it caused a severe spike that landed me in the clinic. Always consult your general physician for a safe prescription.

I used to panic every time I caught a cold, thinking I couldn't take anything. But my doctor explained that as long as we choose the tablet/capsule version of DayQuil instead of the syrup, it doesn't affect our sugar much. You'll be absolutely fine!

Instead of buying expensive imported syrups that spike your sugar, just ask your local doctor for a basic paracetamol or cold tablet. It is much cheaper, and you won't have to waste money on extra sugar test strips to monitor the spike.

Since we diabetics already have to miss out on the good sweets, don't waste your sugar budget on sweet cold syrups! Liquid DayQuil has a lot of sugar. Go for the capsules, and save those carb counts for a nice cup of hot soup instead.

I completely understand how stressful it is to get sick when you have diabetes, every little medicine makes you worry. The liquid DayQuil does have sugar, so it might cause some anxiety. Try to get the sugar-free capsules if you can to keep your mind at peace.
