Can diabetics take collagen?

My friend recently started taking collagen for her skin and joints, and she's raving about it. I'm diabetic, so I always have to be careful about new supplements. Is it safe for people like me to take collagen, or should I avoid it?

Actually, please check with your doctor before starting any supplement like collagen. I once took random over-the-counter tablets thinking they were harmless and ended up messing up my reports. Don't take a chance with diabetes, run it by your doc first.

Yes, they can, but always check the label first for added sugars. Many flavored collagen powders have hidden carbs that can cause a sudden spike. Better to go for unflavored ones and ask your doctor once.

Even if everyone says it is safe, diabetes is a complicated condition and affects everyone differently. I highly recommend taking the collagen box to your diabetologist during your next visit. They can tell you the exact dosage that is safe for your kidneys.

I track all my macros on my app and collagen peptide is mostly pure protein, so it shouldn't spike your insulin. Just make sure the net carbs are zero on the package. Still, better to log your fasting sugar for a few days after starting it just to be safe.

Haan na, even my uncle was asking about this. Collagen is generally okay for diabetics but you have to be very careful with the brand. Some have maltodextrin or sugar which is bad, so please check the ingredients list properly.
