Can diabetics have white rice?

In our family, rice is a main part of every meal, especially for lunch and dinner. I've heard that white rice is not good for diabetics. Does this mean I cannot have white rice at all, or can I have it in very small quantities?

Honestly, after a long exhausting day, white rice is the ultimate comfort food, but it's a sugar bomb for us. I only eat it if I cool it down first to create resistant starch, and even then, I keep the portion painfully small.

I monitor my blood sugar strictly, and white rice is something I rarely touch because it causes instant spikes. If you must have it, mix a tiny portion of rice with twice the amount of dal and high-fiber green vegetables.

Please be very careful with white rice. I neglected my portions earlier and ended up with severe nerve complications due to sustained high blood sugar. Always consult your doctor to get a personalized meal plan first.

At the hospital where I consult, doctors emphasize that white rice is highly refined and digests too quickly. You should discuss your daily carb allowance clearly with your diabetologist before making it a staple.

I get so anxious even looking at a bowl of white rice, worrying it will ruin my weekly readings. If you want to try eating it, please measure the portion very carefully and test your sugar two hours later to ensure your body can handle it safely.

I've been managing type 2 diabetes for ten years and still enjoy my rice. The trick is portion control and preparation: use parboiled rice, drain the starch water, and pair it with a heavy bowl of green leafy subji and protein.

I logged my glucose curve on a CGM after eating white rice, and the spike was quite steep. However, substituting it with brown rice or foxtail millet gave me a much flatter, safer curve. You should try tracking your own meals to see the difference.

I totally get it, giving up white rice is so difficult because it's such a staple in our daily life. It can feel really frustrating to cook separately, but shifting to smaller portions paired with dahi and fiber makes a huge difference.
