Can diabetics have smoothies?

I'm trying to incorporate more fruits and veggies into my diet since I have diabetes. I was thinking of making smoothies as a quick breakfast option. Are smoothies generally good for diabetics, or should I be careful with certain ingredients?

I totally get it, sometimes you just want a quick, refreshing drink and tea or water gets boring. Liquid sugar from blended fruits can spike you fast, but if you make it with spinach, almond milk, and some seeds, it is much safer. I completely understand how tough managing these cravings is!

My father was just diagnosed with diabetes last week and we are very confused about meals. Is it okay if we make a smoothie with apple and curd for his breakfast, or will that also cause a big spike? We are still trying to understand all this.

Yes, but only if they are green smoothies with very little low-GI fruit. Blended juices and sweet fruit smoothies will spike your sugar instantly.

Bhai, market wale packed smoothies mat peena, usme bohot shakar hoti hai. Ghar pe dahi aur thoda sa pisa hua jamun ya seb dalkar lassi jaisa bana lo, wo fayda karega aur pet bhi bharega.

I track my sugars diligently and I can tell you that fruit smoothies are a big no-no. Even natural sugar in blended form absorbs too quickly in the bloodstream. If you must have one, use unsweetened soy milk, cucumber, spinach, and maybe half a green apple with chia seeds.

In our times, we did not have these modern smoothies. It is always better to chew your food rather than drinking it because chewing helps digestion. If you want something refreshing, have some fresh buttermilk with a pinch of roasted cumin and ginger, which is very good for stomach heat.

These fancy smoothies are just sweet milkshakes with a health certificate! My doctor laughed when I asked if I could have mango smoothies in summer. Stick to simple cucumber-mint water or plain dahi, your pancreas will thank you for not giving it extra work.

I get so scared reading recipe blogs because one says spinach is good and another says raw spinach has oxalates! I think if you really want a smoothie, just make a tiny portion, maybe half a glass, and drink it very slowly. Do check your blood sugar after that just to be safe and ease your mind.
