Can diabetics have red potatoes?

My neighbour mentioned that red potatoes are somehow better than white potatoes, especially for people with health conditions. I have diabetes and always thought all potatoes were bad. Can diabetics eat red potatoes?

Honestly, be very careful with this. I ignored my potato portions earlier and my blood sugar shot up so high that I ended up in the clinic with severe nerve pain. Please consult your doctor or a proper dietitian first before adding them to your daily meals.

My teenage son has type 1 diabetes and loves potatoes, so we sometimes use red potatoes as a treat. I always pair them with a big bowl of green salad and chicken or paneer to slow down the sugar absorption. It takes a bit of planning but it works safely for him.

Don't just listen to people on social media saying red potatoes are a miracle safe food for diabetes. Every body reacts differently to starches and only your doctor can tell you what fits your specific HbA1c levels. Get a proper diet plan made by your physician.

Hey, don't stress. You don't have to completely cut out everything you love, just be smart about it. Red potatoes are fine once in a while if you eat them cold or in salads with some vinegar. Just make sure you discuss your overall daily carb limits with your doctor first, okay?

I have been managing my type 2 diabetes for ten years now and I still eat red potatoes occasionally. The trick is to cool them down after boiling because it creates resistant starch which doesn't spike sugar as fast. Just don't mash them or fry them, and keep the portion to a small cup.

They actually have a slightly lower glycemic index than regular white potatoes, but they still have plenty of carbs. If you really want them, just boil them with the skin on and keep the portion small. Just monitor your sugar levels two hours after eating to see how your body reacts.

Bro, my dad has diabetes and we literally had this discussion yesterday. Red potatoes are cool in small amounts because of the skin, but you still can't go crazy eating a big bowl of fries. Portion control is key, otherwise the blood sugar spikes are real.

Yes, you can absolutely enjoy them in moderation! 🥔 Just mix them with lots of high-fiber veggies and a good source of protein to keep your glucose stable. It is all about smart plating, so don't worry too much!
