Can diabetics have grits?

My daughter mentioned 'grits' that she had on a trip abroad. I have diabetes, so I'm curious if this food item would be something I could try.

Grits are made from corn, which can raise your blood sugar levels quite quickly. I always prefer simple, home-style broken wheat dahlia instead. However, if you are experiencing symptoms like extreme fatigue or blurry vision, please consult a doctor immediately.

Because corn grits have a high glycemic index, they are likely to cause a sharp rise in glucose levels. Please check your blood sugar before and two hours after eating them to be absolutely safe, and discuss this with your physician.

Grits aren't very common in normal Indian households anyway. A simple and cheap alternative is steel-cut oats or barley dahlia, which are much better for sugar control and easily available in any local kirana shop.

If you are absolutely craving that creamy grits texture, try making them with lots of cheese, butter, and some added protein like eggs or chicken to slow down the sugar rush. Just don't make it a daily breakfast habit!

I get so anxious just thinking about eating high-carb foods like corn grits. If you really want to try it, maybe start with just a tiny tablespoon along with a huge plate of boiled eggs or veggies? That way you won't feel too worried about a huge spike.

It is honestly so frustrating to have to doubt every single comforting breakfast option. I struggled a lot emotionally with these dietary restrictions. If you do decide to have grits, don't feel guilty, just keep the portion small and balance the rest of your day.

My diabetologist clearly explained that stone-ground grits are slightly better than instant grits because they retain some fiber. However, because they are still highly processed corn, the glycemic load is high, so they should be strictly limited to small portions.

Over my thirty years of managing diabetes, I have tried many western foods. But I always find that our traditional South Indian upma made with ragi or broken wheat is much friendlier on the system than corn-based grits. Stick to what your body knows best.

With insulin resistance from PCOS, corn-based foods usually cause a pretty fast spike for me. I try to be very cautious and avoid grits, opting instead for high-protein breakfasts like chickpea chilla which keep my levels much more stable.

From a purely vegetarian dietary perspective, grits lack the high protein content that helps stabilize blood glucose. If you do consume them, make sure to add plenty of tofu, sprouts, or high-fiber vegetables to lower the overall glycemic load of the meal.

Hey, don't stress too much about it! If you love grits, just have a tiny portion once in a while and pair it with some scrambled eggs. It's all about enjoying life in moderation without constantly worrying.

Actually, grits are mostly just simple carbs, yaar. They will digest super fast and spike your sugar. Unless you are mixing it with a ton of fiber and protein, it's probably better to just skip it and have eggs instead.

I consult a senior specialist at a top hospital in Delhi, and she advised me that instant corn products are highly refined and should be avoided. I suggest you consult your own doctor clearly to see if grits fit into your specific meal plan.

I am quite new to learning about diabetic diets as my father was just diagnosed. Are grits really that different from wheat dahlia, or do they affect blood sugar in the same way?

I used to panic whenever my sugar went up slightly after eating carbs like grits. But I realized that as long as I walk for 15-20 minutes right after the meal, my body handles it completely fine. Don't worry too much, just keep moving.
