Can diabetics have corn?

It's monsoon season, and I love eating bhutta (corn on the cob) from the street vendor. I have diabetes, so I'm trying to be mindful of my food choices. Is corn generally okay for diabetics?

In my many years of managing diabetes, I have learned that corn is fine as long as you treat it as a carb, not a vegetable. If you have some boiled corn, make sure you reduce the portion of roti or rice in that meal. It works well and doesn't cause sudden spikes if eaten in moderation.

I totally get it, corn is so delicious and it's really hard to resist those warm bhuttas in the rainy season. Corn does have a higher starch content, so you have to be mindful. Try having it raw or boiled in small quantities mixed with lots of cucumber and tomato salad.

Honestly, I barely have the energy to boil water, let alone cook complicated meals, but my diabetic uncle eats boiled corn quite often. He just skips his evening chapati when he has corn. It seems to keep his sugar levels in check without any extra drama.

Yes, you can absolutely enjoy corn! It has good fiber and vitamins, but since it is sweet and starchy, just keep the portion size small. A half-cup of boiled sweet corn with some lemon and chaat masala is a super tasty and safe snack!

Bro, corn is high in carbs and glycemic index, so don't treat it like a light salad. If you want to have it, just eat a small cup of boiled sweet corn and check your sugar levels after two hours to see how your body reacts. Keep it limited.
