Can diabetics have baked beans?

Sometimes I enjoy baked beans on toast for a quick meal, but I know they can be high in sugar. My husband is diabetic, and I'm trying to plan his meals carefully. Can diabetics eat baked beans?

Be very careful with canned baked beans because they contain a lot of hidden sugar in the tomato sauce. I once ignored my rising post-meal sugar levels thinking beans are healthy, and ended up with complications. Always check your levels and consult your doctor.

I love baked beans, but the canned ones are a sugar trap. The best way is to make them at home using boiled haricot beans and fresh tomatoes without adding any sugar or jaggery. This way you get all the fiber without the glucose spike.

Do not trust articles online saying baked beans are a superfood for diabetics. Most commercial cans have sweet syrups. You must consult your clinical nutritionist or doctor to see if it fits into your daily carb limit.

Generally, beans are good because of their high fiber and protein content, but canned ones have too many preservatives and sugar. If you really want them, wash the sauce off under tap water before eating, or make your own batch at home.

Look, if you buy the cheap canned baked beans from the market, your sugar will definitely shoot up. Make them at home from scratch if you want to eat them safely. Otherwise, just stick to normal ghar ki dal.

I eat baked beans on toast in my hostel a lot, but my uncle who has diabetes was told to stay away from the canned ones because of the sweet sauce. Guess it's better to avoid them if you can't cook them yourself.

Managing both thyroid and sugar means I have to monitor everything I eat. Since canned beans are high in sodium and sugar, I limit them strictly. Make sure you get your thyroid and HbA1c checked regularly if you are experimenting with such foods.
