Beta, if your sugar is high, the tattoo wound will take a very long time to heal and might catch infections. I always say keep your body cool, drink warm turmeric milk to heal any normal cuts, but for a tattoo, you must get your blood reports checked first. If the sugar levels are completely stable, only then think about it.
Please be very careful with this. I got a small tattoo when my sugar was fluctuating, and the skin got badly infected and took months to heal, leaving a nasty scar. Definitely consult your diabetologist before making any decision to avoid such complications.
Actually yaar, my friend who has Type 1 got a huge sleeve tattoo last year. He just made sure his HbA1c was totally under control before getting inked. Just find a super hygienic studio, tell the artist about your condition, and you are sorted.
My mother was very against me getting a tattoo because of my diabetes, saying it's not good for our skin health. But I spoke to my doctor, got my HbA1c checked, and once he gave the green light, I went ahead. It healed perfectly fine with proper aftercare.
Oh, getting a tattoo is a whole project! You have to sit there for hours, so make sure you carry some diabetic-friendly snacks and water to keep your glucose from dropping during the session. Don't go on an empty stomach, otherwise the pain and stress might spike your levels.
I panicked so much when I wanted my first tattoo, reading all those horror stories online about diabetic skin infections. But honestly, as long as your daily sugar readings are stable and you care for the tattoo properly with ointment, it is totally normal and safe.
You can track your glucose trends on your CGM app before booking the appointment. If your time-in-range is solid over the last few weeks, your recovery capacity will be much better. Just make sure the tattoo artist uses sterile, single-use needles.
