Can diabetics get pedicures?

I love getting pedicures, but ever since my diabetes diagnosis, my family has warned me about foot injuries. I miss pampering myself a bit. Can diabetics safely get pedicures, or is it too risky?

Honestly, I can barely keep my eyes open to cut my own nails, let alone go to a salon. But jokes aside, my cousin who has diabetes was told to be super careful with pedicures because even a tiny cut on the foot can take forever to heal. If u do go, make sure the staff knows u have diabetes and is extremely gentle.

Foot hygiene is very important, especially if you are working out or doing daily walks to keep your sugar levels in check. If your doctor allows, you can get a basic clean-up but strictly avoid any deep scrubbing or sharp metal scrapers. Keep your feet dry and clean to avoid any infections.

I used to feel so bad seeing everyone get pampering sessions while I had to constantly worry about infections. It feels unfair to think twice before doing simple things, but protecting your feet is so important. Now I just do a very gentle soak and moisturizing routine at home instead of taking salon risks.

Yes they can, but with a lot of precautions. Always tell the salon staff beforehand that you are diabetic so they don't clip your cuticles or use harsh scrubs. Keep your water warm, never too hot, because sensation in the feet can be low sometimes.

Listen, don't worry too much, you can definitely keep your feet clean and tidy. Just avoid those cheap salons and go to a professional place that sanitizes their tools properly. Make sure they don't use blades or sharp metal files on your heels, safety first always.

My physician specifically told me that regular pedicures are risky because of the danger of silent cuts leading to diabetic foot ulcers. He advised me to inspect my feet daily at home and get nails trimmed straight across. If you really want a pedicure, go to a medical podiatrist or a highly hygienic clinic.

I totally understand the anxiety around this, I used to panic even if my feet got a tiny scratch. If you are nervous, it's completely valid to skip the salon altogether. I felt much better after discussing foot care with my doctor first, it really calms the mind.
