Can diabetics eat white potatoes?

I love aloo in almost everything, but since I got diabetes, I'm worried about its starch content. Is it true that white potatoes are bad for diabetics, or can I still have them occasionally in moderation? I really miss my potato curry.

My doctor explained that white potatoes have a very high glycemic index, especially when boiled or mashed. However, if you cool them after cooking, it creates resistant starch which lowers the spike. Still, it's best to consume them in very small portions and always pair them with fiber.

Potatoes are in literally every Indian dish, so avoiding them makes me so anxious during family meals. I always worry about my sugar levels going crazy. If you do eat them, maybe just take a tiny spoonful of the sabzi and load up on salad instead.

Let's be realistic, avoiding potatoes 100% is very hard in Indian households. Just swap them with sweet potatoes occasionally, or make sure you control your rice portion on days you are eating potato sabzi. Don't double up on carbs.

My grandmother always says to avoid potatoes completely, but my doctor told me moderation is key. If we make potato curry at home, I make sure to eat it with plenty of green leafy vegetables or dal to balance out the glycemic load. It works well for my readings.

I have lived with diabetes for 25 years now, and I can tell you that you don't need to completely ban potatoes. Just don't eat them as the main dish. A little bit mixed in mix-veg sabzi is perfectly fine, just keep walking regularly.
