Can diabetics eat waffles?

Sometimes I really crave a sweet breakfast, like waffles. I know they're usually high in sugar and carbs. Can a diabetic have waffles occasionally, perhaps with some modifications, or is it something I should completely stay away from?

Honestly, regular waffles are like a direct ticket to a sugar spike, especially with all the syrup. My roommate tried making keto waffles with almond flour once and they were actually pretty decent and safe for his sugar.

My elders always advise us to avoid western bakery items completely when dealing with diabetes. However, my doctor said if I ever crave waffles, I can have a small, home-made oats-based waffle without any sweet syrup once in a while.

Please avoid regular waffles. I ignored my high sugars and kept eating sweet desserts, which ended up causing serious nerve damage in my feet. Get your sugar levels checked regularly and strictly follow your doctor's advice.

I have managed my diabetes for 12 years. If you must have waffles, make them at home using protein powder, egg whites, and almond flour, and sweeten with stevia. It works perfectly and won't touch your sugar levels.

If you are busy and ordering out, do not order waffles. They are packed with refined flour and sugar. Instead, quickly whip up a high-protein besan chilla at home—it takes 10 minutes and is infinitely safer.

I tried eating half a waffle at a café last month and my sugar shot up to 210 in an hour. Honestly, it is not worth the spike. Better to stay far away from them.

Regular waffles are basically sugar bombs disguised as breakfast. Unless you want your glucometer to start singing, it is better to skip them or stick to some boring ragi pancakes instead!

I am newly diagnosed and still trying to understand the rules. Waffles look so tasty but I am too scared to try them. Has anyone here tried making them with ragi or almond flour? Did it spike your sugar?
