Can diabetics eat tortilla chips?

When we have get-togethers, there are often tortilla chips with dips. I'm diabetic, and I'm trying to be careful with snacks. Are tortilla chips okay for diabetics to eat, or should I avoid them completely because of the carbs and frying?

Generally, packaged tortilla chips are made of corn, fried in oil, and loaded with sodium, which can cause quick spikes in blood sugar. If you really want them, limit it to a very small handful and pair them with home-made guacamole for healthy fats.

Fried store chips are very bad for sugar patients. If you have cravings, baked multi-grain papad at home is a much safer option. But if your sugar is constantly high, do not try home remedies and see your doctor immediately.

I tracked my blood glucose after eating a small bowl of commercial tortilla chips and the spike on my CGM was pretty high. The carbs add up very fast. If you eat them, track the portion carefully on an app.

I know how hard it is to resist snacking during movie nights! Try baking whole wheat rotis cut into triangles till they are crispy. It gives the exact same crunch as tortilla chips but is way healthier for diabetes.

Honestly, imported or packaged tortilla chips are quite expensive and not good for health anyway. Why spend money on things that will ultimately increase your medicine costs? Stick to basic home-made snacks instead.

My son loves chips, so I bake ragi-based tortilla chips at home with very little oil instead of buying the fried ones from stores. It satisfies his cravings safely without causing any scary blood sugar jumps.

Most store-bought tortilla chips are highly processed and fried, which is a bad combination for diabetic health. If you are looking for clean vegetarian snacks, roasted peanuts or chana are far safer choices.

I completely understand the anxiety of wanting a normal snack but feeling scared to touch it. Standard tortilla chips can spike sugar, so it is better to avoid them. You can try a small portion of roasted makhana instead.

I am not a doctor, but in my experience, even a few corn tortilla chips caused my morning sugar levels to jump. Now I just avoid them completely to stay on the safer side.

If you absolutely must eat a few tortilla chips, make sure you do a solid 20-minute brisk walk right after. The exercise helps muscles absorb the excess glucose, but still, keep the portion very small.
