Can diabetics eat tamales?

I saw a recipe for tamales online and thought it looked interesting to try. I'm diabetic, so I'm always checking ingredients. Is it generally safe for diabetics to eat tamales, or should I be cautious about specific ingredients or preparation methods?

Tamales are made of corn dough (masa) and can be very high in sodium and lard, which is bad for both blood pressure and diabetes. Make sure you keep your portions small, track your levels, and get your regular heart checkups done.

My sugar levels shot up to 240 after I ate two tamales at a friend's place last month. The corn dough has a very high glycemic index. If you really want to try it, just have a tiny bite and balance it with lots of green salad.

Honestly, tamales are mostly pure corn starch and fat, which is a bad combo for sugar levels. If your parents or relatives have diabetes, maybe suggest they stick to healthier baked snacks instead.

I got so nervous reading about the high starch content in corn masa used for tamales. It feels like even a small portion could cause a massive sugar spike. Please check your blood sugar two hours after eating one to see if your body can handle it safely.

Tamales are super heavy on carbs, yaar. Actually, the corn dough is steamed but it is still highly processed corn, which spikes sugar fast. It is better to avoid them or just have half a piece if you really want to taste it.
