Can diabetics eat sweets once in a while?

It's Diwali next month, and sweets are a big part of our celebrations. I try to be very careful with my diabetes diet. Is it absolutely forbidden for a diabetic to have any sweets, or can we enjoy a small portion occasionally, like once in a while?

If you eat a small sweet occasionally, make sure to drink warm water with a bit of cinnamon powder later to help digestion. But if your sugar goes very high or you feel dizzy, don't rely on home remedies and go straight to your doctor.

I have lived with diabetes for 25 years now. An occasional bite of sweet on my grandchild's birthday hasn't harmed me, but the key is absolute discipline on other days. Just don't let that 'once in a while' become every weekend.

Please do not listen to people saying sugar-free sweets are completely safe. Every diabetic body reacts differently to carbs. Check your sugar before and after eating any sweet, and verify your safe limit with your doctor.

It is alright to have a tiny piece of home-made kheer during major festivals. To balance it, we traditionally used to drink fresh bitter gourd juice the next morning, but do consult your doctor to ensure your overall health is safe.

Ah, the eternal struggle of a diabetic! Honestly, my wife acts like a security guard around the fridge, but once in a blue moon I sneak a small sandesh. Just ensure your daily medicines are taken on time and don't make it a habit.
