Can diabetics eat sweet corn?

I enjoy eating sweet corn, especially the roadside bhutta, but I'm not sure if it's high in sugar or carbs for a diabetic. Can I still have sweet corn occasionally, or is it something I need to avoid completely due to my sugar?

Sweet corn is delicious, but don't eat it like a free snack! It does have natural sugars and carbs. I usually have a small cup of buttered sweet corn with lots of pepper to satisfy my street food cravings.

Sweet corn has a medium glycemic index, so you can't eat it mindlessly. If you are busy, a quick boiled corn salad is okay, but keep the portion small—about half a cup is enough.

My son loves sweet corn, so we have to be careful with his portions. We usually add it to soups or salads in very small amounts so he gets the taste without any major sugar spikes.

Honestly, sweet corn spikes my sugar if I eat too much of it. I only eat it occasionally and always make sure to mix it with chopped onions, tomatoes, and cucumber to add fiber.

I know how scary it is when you want to eat something simple like sweet corn but fear a sugar spike. Don't worry, a small portion is perfectly fine, just avoid eating it as a full meal.

Yes, you can eat it, but moderation is key. Do not buy the canned sweet corn as they often add extra sugar syrup. Stick to fresh corn on the cob and roast it with lemon and salt.
