Can diabetics eat spaghetti?

My kids love spaghetti for dinner, and I usually make it with whole wheat pasta. Now that I'm pre-diabetic, I'm worried about the carbs. Can I still have spaghetti occasionally, or is it something I need to completely cut out?

Spaghetti made from refined flour can spike blood sugar quickly. Whole wheat or semolina pasta is slightly better, but your overall medical condition matters. I highly recommend discussing your portion sizes with your doctor or dietitian.

I can only speak from my own experience with diabetes. Normal spaghetti spikes my blood sugar levels pretty badly. Now, I only eat small portions of whole-grain spaghetti and always cook it al dente, which seems to help a bit.

Please don't take your diet lightly. I used to ignore what I ate, thinking a plate of pasta wouldn't hurt, and ended up with severe complications. Get your fasting sugar levels checked regularly and strictly follow what your doctor says about high-carb meals.

If you are craving spaghetti, look for high-protein chickpea or lentil-based pasta. Also, make sure to add chicken or paneer and lots of veggies for fiber. A quick 15-minute brisk walk after eating will also help your body manage the carbs much better.

Spaghetti dekh kar toh bohot mann karta hai khane ka, haan na? But normal maida spaghetti is not safe for sugars. Maybe try making it with lots of veggies and keep the quantity very small, that works better for our health.
