Can diabetics eat potatoes and rice?

My mother has been diagnosed with diabetes recently, and she's very worried about her diet. She loves eating rice and potatoes, which are common in our meals. Is it okay for her to eat both, or should she choose one?

My father was just diagnosed with diabetes last week, and we are so confused about meals. Is it safer to completely cut out both potatoes and rice together, or is it okay if we just reduce the quantity of rice and keep a little potato?

I have been managing my type 2 diabetes for ten years now. I never eat potatoes and rice together because it is too much carb load for the body to process. I only have a small cup of brown rice with lots of sambar and vegetables, and avoid potatoes.

When I track my meals on my app, combining potato and white rice always puts my blood sugar into the red zone. If you want rice, try pairing it with a high-protein dish like paneer or chicken and lots of fiber, and skip the potato entirely.

I used to have heavy spikes when eating rice and potato dishes. The trick is portion control and cooking methods. Use parboiled or basmati rice, cook it with extra water and drain the starch, and limit potatoes to just a few pieces mixed in a high-fiber subji.

My doctor clearly explained that both are high-glycemic foods. Eating them in the same meal causes a rapid glucose spike because of the pure starch. He advised switching to brown rice or basmati in controlled amounts, and never pairing it with potato on the same day.

Eating both together is a bit risky, yaar. Actually, both are pure carbs, so your sugar will definitely shoot up. If you are having rice, just avoid aloo that day, or try brown rice instead of white to keep it safe.

Eating potatoes and rice together is like inviting a double-decker sugar spike to dinner! If you must have them, treat them like guests who should leave quickly—keep the portion tiny, and make sure plate is filled with dal and salad instead.

Look, eating aloo and chawal together is basically double starch, which is a big no for diabetes. You have to choose one or the other in very small quantities. Fill your plate with green vegetables and dal first, then add just a spoonful of rice.
