Can diabetics eat pita bread?
We recently tried some Mediterranean food and pita bread was served with hummus. My wife has diabetes, and we weren't sure if she could eat it. Is it safe for diabetics to have, maybe in moderation?

I used to eat white pita bread assuming it was healthier than Indian maida rotis, but I completely ignored my rising sugar levels until it became a major issue. Please check the ingredients carefully; regular pita is made of refined flour and will spike you. Always consult your doctor and monitor your levels.
While whole wheat pita is better than white pita, carbs are still carbs. It is very important to check your post-meal blood sugar levels after eating it to see how your body reacts. Safety first, so do consult your healthcare provider before making it a regular part of your diet.
I have been managing my type 2 diabetes for a decade. Regular pita bread is usually made of maida which is bad, but you can find 100% whole wheat or multigrain pita bread now. I eat half a pocket stuffed with lots of salad and grilled paneer to keep my levels stable.
I bought some whole wheat pita bread from the store yesterday, but I am still so anxious about eating it. Has anyone here actually tested their sugar levels after eating wheat pita? Did it cause a major spike for you?
If you love hummus and pita like me, don't worry too much! Just make sure you choose whole wheat pita and load it up with high-fiber veggies and grilled chicken or paneer. The proteins and fats will slow down the digestion and prevent a sugar rush.
