Can diabetics eat ketchup?

I use ketchup on so many things – pakoras, sandwiches, sometimes even in cooking. My father recently got diagnosed with diabetes, and I'm reviewing all our pantry items. Is regular ketchup safe for diabetics, or should we switch to a specific kind?

Commercial ketchup is loaded with high-fructose corn syrup, so even a tablespoon can raise your sugars. If you do end up eating some with your food, try to go for a brisk 15-minute walk right after. If your doctor allows regular moderate exercise, it really helps clear out that sudden sugar rush.

Regular ketchup has way too much hidden sugar, so it is best to avoid it. Try mint chutney instead.

I had to strictly cut down on ketchup after my glucose levels went out of control last winter. Now I buy 'no added sugar' tomato sauces, or I just mash a fresh tomato with some garlic and salt at home. It tastes great and doesn't cause those scary spikes.

These bottled ketchups from the market are not good for health, they have too much sweet and sour chemicals. In our days, we made fresh coriander and mint chutney at home with a little lemon and rock salt. It is safe for sugar patients and also very good for digestion.

Ketchup is not just high in sugar, it also contains a massive amount of sodium, which is terrible if you have high BP along with diabetes. I have to get my kidney functions and BP checked every six months, so I completely stay away from these processed sauces. Better to stick to natural spices.

Bro, regular ketchup is basically tomato-flavored sugar syrup. My mom stopped buying it for my dad because even one squeeze was messing up his morning readings. We switched to home-made green chutney now, it's actually much better with samosas anyway.

Just read the label next time you buy ketchup; sugar is literally the second ingredient. Skip the regular stuff entirely. Get a sugar-free ketchup if you really can't live without it, but limit the portion. No point taking unnecessary risks.

Instead of paying high prices for fancy diabetic ketchups, just reduce your consumption of regular ketchup to a tiny dip. Or better, make a simple tomato-onion chokha at home. It is cheap, easy to prepare, and completely free of artificial sugars.
