Can diabetics eat hummus?

I'm trying to find healthier alternatives for dips and spreads for my diabetic mother, something to go with her rotis or whole wheat bread. I came across hummus at a store. Is hummus a good and safe option for diabetics?

Yes, hummus is generally a very good option for diabetics. Since it is made of chickpeas and olive oil, it has a lot of protein and healthy fats that won't cause sudden spikes. Just try to eat it with cucumber or carrot sticks instead of high-carb pita bread. Take care.

Hummus is an absolute win for your diet. The chickpeas give you a solid dose of plant-based protein and fiber, which helps keep your insulin levels stable. I usually pair it with grilled veggies or baked ragi chips after my evening workouts to stay full and keep my blood sugar balanced.

As someone who has been managing diabetes for ten years, I can tell you hummus is a staple in my kitchen. The fiber in chana slows down sugar absorption wonderfully. But watch out for what you dip into it; ditch the white bread and use celery or roasted bell peppers instead.

While hummus is made from healthy ingredients like chickpeas, commercial store-bought versions often contain added preservatives or unhealthy oils. To be safe, it is always best to check your blood sugar levels before and after eating it. Also, discuss your daily carb limit with your doctor during your next visit.

The dieticians at Aster Medcity highly recommend hummus because of its low glycemic index. However, the portion size still matters because chickpeas do contain carbohydrates. It is always best to consult your doctor to find out exactly how much you can include in your daily meal plan.

Yes, completely agree that hummus is safe. Just make sure to make it at home using fresh olive oil and garlic so you can control the ingredients easily.

My mother always tells us that boiled chickpeas are excellent for sugar control, and hummus is just a smooth paste of the same. It is full of good nutrients. Still, it is always wise to consult your doctor first to make sure it suits your body's specific requirements.
