Can diabetics eat grits and eggs?

My nutritionist suggested high-protein breakfasts for my diabetes management. I came across 'grits and eggs' as an option online. Are grits and eggs together a good and safe breakfast choice for diabetics?

Eggs are excellent for diabetics because they are packed with protein and don't raise sugar at all. But grits are refined corn, which will definitely cause a spike. Skip the grits, eat the eggs with some vegetables or a slice of whole grain toast instead.

Bhai, andey toh bahut achhe hain sehat ke liye, par yeh grits hamare dalia jaisa nahi hota, yeh jaldi sugar badha deta hai. Aap andey ke sath thoda sa saade gehu ka daliya khao, woh sasta bhi hai aur sugar ke liye bhi badhiya rahega.

I go to Max Hospital for my checkups, and my doctor clearly told me that pairing protein like eggs with carbohydrates can slow down sugar absorption. However, grits are still high-glycemic. It is best to ask your doctor or hospital clinical nutritionist if this combination is safe for you.

Please be very careful with refined foods like grits. I used to eat similar corn-based breakfasts thinking they were healthy, but my sugars stayed high, which eventually affected my vision. Do not ignore this, and please consult your doctor to plan your morning meals safely.

In our old days, we always ate fresh boiled eggs for strength. Modern foods like grits are heavily processed and not suitable for diabetic patients. If you want a warm breakfast, have a small bowl of oats cooked with a pinch of turmeric, which is much better for your health.

Buying imported breakfast options like grits is not practical and just adds to your monthly food budget, on top of the cost of regular sugar testing strips. Eggs are cheap and highly nutritious. Just stick to eggs and local whole wheat roti to keep both your wallet and HbA1c happy.
