Can diabetics eat crawfish?

We sometimes visit a restaurant that serves seafood, and they have crawfish on the menu. My husband has diabetes. I wanted to know if this is a suitable food choice for him.

I eat seafood regularly and crawfish is absolutely fine for diabetes. The trick is to avoid heavy butter dipping sauces and keep the spices mild. Pair it with steamed broccoli or a fresh salad to add some fiber to the meal.

Crawfish is mostly protein and low carb, so it shouldn't spike your sugar much. Just make sure it is not prepared with too much heavy butter or oil. I usually take a brisk 30-minute walk after such meals to keep my levels fully balanced.

I totally understand how scary it is to eat anything new when you are diabetic. I used to check my sugar ten times a day out of fear. Crawfish is actually safe as it's low in sugar, but start with a very small portion to calm your mind.

Yes, crawfish itself has zero carbs, but please check the recipe. If it is cooked in sweet sauces or with heavy corn starches, it will ruin your sugar readings. I always test my fasting the next day after eating any seafood.

If you are eating crawfish, make sure to drink a glass of warm methi water afterward to support your digestion. But please, if you feel any allergy, itching, or sudden breathing discomfort, see a doctor immediately.

I am actually quite new to managing my diabetes and I am still trying to figure out seafood. Is crawfish really safe if I cook it at home with normal Indian spices? Please let me know.

While seafood is generally considered safe, everyone's body reacts differently. It's always best to ask your diabetologist before making changes to your diet, especially if you have high cholesterol too.

Don't worry, crawfish is a very lean source of protein and completely fine for us. Just boil or grill it, and avoid the greasy gravies. It's actually a great option compared to heavy mutton or chicken dishes!
