Can diabetics eat brown sugar?

I'm trying to cut down on refined sugar because of my family history of diabetes. Some recipes suggest brown sugar as a healthier alternative. Can diabetics eat brown sugar, or is it just as bad as white sugar?

No way, brown sugar is just regular white sugar with some molasses mixed in. It will spike your blood glucose exactly the same way. Don't fall for the marketing hype, avoid it completely.

I agree, brown sugar is not safe for diabetics at all. It is better to use natural sweeteners like stevia or just avoid sweetening your drinks altogether.

I totally understand how hard it is to give up sweet things, and finding a safe replacement can be so overwhelming. But honestly, brown sugar has the same glycemic index as white sugar. It is best to avoid it so you don't feel anxious about your readings later.

I tried switching to brown sugar last year when I was working on bringing my borderline sugar levels down. My dietitian stopped me immediately, explaining that chemically it is nearly identical to white sugar. Once I cut both out completely, my HbA1c improved dramatically.

Please don't make the mistake I did of substituting white sugar with brown sugar thinking it was healthy. My sugar levels went sky high and I ignored it until it caused complications. Please get your levels checked regularly and stay away from all types of real sugars.
