Can diabetics drink whey protein powder?

I've been looking into supplements for my fitness routine. Whey protein powder is very common. As a diabetic, I want to confirm if it's safe for my blood sugar levels before I start using it.

Be very careful with protein powders. I started taking one randomly and it really messed up my kidney creatinine levels, which is a big risk for diabetics. You must consult your doctor and get a full kidney function test before starting any brand.

Honestly, finding out what is safe to eat and drink after diagnosis is so exhausting. I used to cry looking at labels, wondering if whey would spike me. Don't worry, it is a very common doubt and you will figure out the right routine soon.

I was super scared of whey protein when I first got diagnosed because I thought it was full of chemicals. But once I actually tried a pure isolate without any added sugars, it worked totally fine for my levels. It actually helps keep me full for longer.

Whey isolate can actually be helpful for muscle retention, but many brands sneak in artificial sweeteners or maltodextrin which can cause insulin spikes. It is best to take your preferred brand's label to your diabetologist. They can guide you based on your overall protein intake needs.

I drink whey protein daily to meet my macros, but I only buy unflavoured whey isolate. You have to check the back of the pack very carefully for any hidden sugars or carb fillers. Flavoured ones usually have hidden ingredients that can disturb your fasting numbers.

In my experience, natural plant-based proteins or sattu are much gentler on the body, but clean whey is also okay if it suits your digestion. Along with any supplement, keep doing simple yoga poses like Mandukasana daily. It helps naturally keep the pancreas healthy.
