Can diabetics donate bone marrow?

My cousin is in urgent need of a bone marrow transplant, and I want to see if I'm a match and can donate. However, I have diabetes, which I manage with medication. Can diabetics donate bone marrow, or does it pose a risk to the recipient or myself?

We panicked when my brother, who has diabetes, was asked to register as a donor. But the registry team did a full assessment and explained that well-controlled diabetes without organ damage is often acceptable. It is much more reassuring once you talk to the experts.

I felt so heartbroken when I found out my diabetes might prevent me from being a bone marrow donor for a relative. It is hard when you want to help but your own body has limitations. Your feelings are completely valid.

The rules for bone marrow registry are extremely strict compared to blood donation. If you are on insulin, it's generally a no-go due to recipient safety and your own health risks. Best to contact a registry like Datri directly to clarify.

Having the intention to help save a life is a blessing in itself. Do not worry if your health doesn't permit you to donate bone marrow. God sees your pure intent, so just take care of your health first.
